Irish pop rock band The Script is on their No Sound Without Silence Tour, promoting their newly released fourth album. “No Sound Without Silence” hit number one ensuring they’ve maintained their global appeal. The proof was with 1,000 wet New Yorkers on line outside Hammerstein Ballroom. This is the 3rd number one LP from The Script.

In addition to their beautiful track record, their television features continue. Lets review, 90210, The Hills, The Vampire Diaries, Ghost Whisperer… the list goes on and on. Oh! And don’t forget a portion of their work includes your favorite faces, The Victoria Secrets supermodels. They’ve even opened a runway segment with the ravishing Heidi Klum.

But back to this show. The Script brought together the struggling Soho artist, the hood chick from Harlem, the preps and corporate suits. The only thing this crowd had in common was public transit and their reaction once the lights went out. Danny O’Donoghue (lead vocalist) twisted feelings with “Breakeven (Falling to Pieces)”. His guitar and piano skills aren’t too shabby either.

Danny’s band mates do not cut corners; this is in fact a live show! No one missed a note and fans didn’t miss a lyric on “For the First Time” and “Nothing”. All the ballads were fluffy but it wasn’t until Danny jumped in the crowd that people started slamming into one another, trying to touch him. It was like he magically appeared in his labels balcony seats and fearlessly jumped down.

This was rockstar behavior at it’s finest. Unbothered he sang and walked through the (now) moshpit, from back of the house. “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” had no worries moving through his raving fans. The Script tamed the tough crowd NYC brings. The band was full of surprises and the rugged New Yorkers weren’t stingy with their applause.

Hot 97 brought it’s annual “On Da Reggae Tip” outdoors for the first time, to JBL Live at Pier 97. On Da Reggae Tip was the equivalent of a caribbean Summer Jam. The station never cuts corners on their festivities bills, and 2014 was no exception. #ODRT headliners were Jamaican legends Shabba Ranks and Beenie Man.

Attendees were ready to jump up and wave. Beautiful women showed all their island curves, while men threw-back Red Stripe. Vendors were selling traditional foods, including, roti and fish treats. Some of dancehall music’s most tremendous acts got extra lusty, guarantying some action at the “after party”.

Red Rat made a cameo for the newly sampled “Tight Skirt” and Maxi Priest swooned us with his unexpected appearance. Sanchez and his classic, “Baby Can I Hold You”, made the crowd wonder how Hot 97 got all these artists to perform. Bunji Garlin brought the soca energy with, “Down in the Ghetto”, but the audience began to get impatient with the venues sound system. The performers kept losing their mic’s volume. Ugh! Even Beenie Man made Hot 97 start his set over (rather annoyed) on stage.

As any true performer would, Beenie Man continued on with “King of Dancehall”. The crowd went nuts and sang profusely. However, Beenie Man didn’t refrain from having the audience yell “Fix that shit” towards production techs. It seemed Beenie Man wanted to make sure the music was perfectly leveled for his surprise guest, Ashanti. New York City has not seen her perform at an event this big in a while. Lets just say things with her got steamy. Ashanti was twirling around in her pum pum shorts like she intended to get some bills paid.

The Emperor of Dancehall followed and he hasn’t lost his touch. Shabba Ranks may have cross-genre success but he is Jamaican to the core. He performed “Dem Bow” as if it were 91′. At nearly 50, Shabba Ranks dances with the enthusiasm he owned at 25. “That man needs to be the Viagra spokesman”, yelled a radio rep. The NYC audience screamed his name like they would Hov’s, during”Mr. Loverman”. The young generation is now familiar with The Emperor after A$AP Ferg released the “Shabba (Remix)”. The “Shabba” video featuring A$AP Rocky, has nearly 30 million impressions. This made “Shabba” the perfect way to close the show…with NYC turnt up!

Just kick your feet up for a night of relaxation with sophistication! Moet & Chandon Champagne provided an intimate event for young NYC entrepreneurs. An impeccably dressed staff was very hospitable while guest mingled on the beautiful Arabella Yacht. The new World Trade Center and city lights were the evening’s backdrop.

The night was filled with clean-cut roses and budding professionals alike. Women laid out on the yacht’s deck and men’s champagne glasses were not permitted to be half full. The Moet professionals were gracious to everyone. A lively playlist was fitting for the event, as the chef prepared the finest of delicacies. Arabella and Moet brought a little luxury to those up and coming in The Big Apple.

Press passes were diligently issued, along with a handful of Absolut drink tickets. “Are all these really necessary?”… I wondered. It felt like trouble from the moment you walked through the long, desert-like alleyway towards the waterfront. A trippy stage was held-up by only a construction crane. This was no ordinary event; it was a huge moshpit with blinking Absolut canister drinks.

There was no ordinary lighting. Only the Absolute glasses lit-up the dark, as well as, the attendees faces. Delicious lime-juice drinks went down oh so smooth, while Arab Muzik was opening. A massive Absolut bottle shaped light-fixture was pressed against the New York City skyline. The lighting prop preserved the sexy of the outside affair.

One thing was clear, this was no ordinary night and half the crowd was going to leave trashed. As B-Boys battled, girls fist-pumped and canister drinks washed down, the momentum for Zedd built up. Attendees were reminded of the spew of hits he’s created. After “Stay the Night” played women got loose. Zedd leaped up over his turntables and yelled “New York City I need to see your hands up to the sky right now”. He and Absolut had the crowd literally jumping, no wallflowers allowed!

Chop and Quench delivered a message of global unity and their horns sounded to praise, “man’s enhancement of life”. Words of inner-peace were delivered, as the drums beat in honor of “man learning to seek true happiness”. “We are not meant to pay to live. God created a world where people should live for free,” he announced to The 1896 Studio and Stage. All the while, island flags waved and large plates of curry goat, plantains with rice and peas scented the venue.

Guinness kept the glasses flowing in preparation for headliner Gyptain. Bushwick could not contain itself once he and his long dreads swung across the spotlight. The tall, dark and handsome Gyptain did not sound the same live…he sounded even better. The Jamaican favorite “Hold Yuh” brought in great vibes. Guinness really outdid themselves. You don’t have to be in a stuffy venue, serving tiny hor d’evours to have a great time. Caribbean folks know how to turn up.
