“Hurry! Please accept your wristband and proceed into the theater,” says a Brooklyn Academy of Music official. A Columbia Records assistant begins handing waivers to John Legend’s contest winners. “You can sit on stage during the performance but you may not take pictures sitting there,” he says. This team is incredibly thorough. It is 30 minutes to show time and out walks Legend; he is sunny.

Legend kindly greets each of his guest and it is refreshing to see an artist show genuine gratitude towards supporters. He is doing more than shaking hands and kissing babies; he is interacting. We take a photo and Legend tells everyone he hopes they enjoy his show. “Wow! Nice guy huh?” says a radio affiliate. “A rare jewel indeed,” I confirm.

Showtime begins and the dreamlike BAM orchestra plays. Legend is quite the Romeo; the audience sees his dapper suit, hears his velvety voice and melts. Effortlessly playing his piano with no music sheets in front of him, he astounds. Legend explains what it was like growing up in a Springfield, Ohio. Music is in his family’s blood. They were heavily involved with their local church. Henceforth, nurturing Legend’s musical gifts significantly. He was taking piano lesson at the tender age of 4. The All Of Me Tour is very personal about his life, almost like opening a diary.

Hit song “Used to Love U,” gets BAM more rowdy than usual. Admirers are singing…well, butchering Legend’s ordinarily lovely chorus. He doesn’t care, he request the theatre sing louder. “Give me the green light, give me just one night,” sings Legend and women lose mindfulness. “This is my song,” exclaims the woman behind me. The expectation is that the audience remain seated in this formal venue and that does not happen either. The show is entertaining and the audience is having a great time.

Incredible details of how, when and who created this beautiful music with him are shared. Admirers are so attentive; you could hear a pin drop. Additionally, the audience is given great insight on the failures and triumphs in Legend’s career. Apart from his jollity, you are remind he is human, a flawed-relatable star. The orchestra begins to play “Ordinary People,” and cheers fill BAM. Finally, he reaches “All Of Me” and the love he feels for his wife Chrissy Teigen appears universal, as the crowd sings in unison.

The All Of Me Tour was a musical journey. Legend is truly a topnotch vocalist. He single-handedly captivates and humor’s his audience. This tour verified he is not only a world-class artist but a true gentleman. From start to finish this euphonious experience was sincerely memorable.

Keep Up with John Legend:
