The line of hipster kids and flamboyant fashion wrapped around the Manhattan venue. One thing became clear as restless fans badgered the bouncers… these two musical mother’s remained queens of the underground. The battle through security was well worth the wait, as the color-blocking goddess Solange twirled her hips across the stage and spun around in 6 inch pumps.

Representing modern neo soul with her angel voice and retro afro, Solange owns the stage. With only her live band she captivates the crowd with perfectly synchronized choreography. Unapologetically outspoken, Solange explains the story behind hits such as “I Decided, Pt. 1”. Her set represented both emotional highs and lows; all women have faced the inevitable battle of falling for an indecisive man. The crowd favorite “Tony” represents that struggle and her off-key audience resonated wall to wall. Webster Hall was just getting warmed up because what felt like an intimate theatre performance was about to become a full-on rave.

M.I.A. and her trippy, molly-friendly, rainbow stage set-up created total mayhem. She walked out in an orange jumpsuit, a pair of sunglasses and wheat boots looking more badass than your boyfriend. The foreign queen of cool made heavily Indian influenced music popular in America. “Believer” blast and M.I.A. drops low and twerks across her neon stage. Everything from her albino b-boy and reggae dancing hype-woman, makes M.I.A. incontestable. She raps in her eerie tone and causes a venue riot.

Chaos breaks in the pit below and her devotees began throwing themselves on stage. Instead on halting the show, M.I.A. and her dancers began pulling fans on stage. It was bizarre! Her mainstream hit “Paper Planes” begins to play and M.I.A. is anything but Hollywood. She and her mob rock together and close out the show. Simply put… if you were not at #VultureFest you just weren’t there.

KEEP UP WITH SOLANGE & M.I.A.:

Brownsville “It’s the slum of the slums,” said rapper Brix. His demeanor is a couple decades his senior. It is difficult to imagine the dark past Brix details in his music, when you consider his solid image. The industry is known for accepting artists with imaginary street credibility; however you sense Brix sincerity when he speaks. “My city made me all that I am. It showed me the harsh realities of life. It gave me tough love which built my character,” said Brix. These harsh realities spill into his music.

His talent has graced the same stage as prominent artists Meek Mill and Kendrick Lamar. Brix’s versatile flow and unique voice paints a picture for his listeners. The Brooklyn bred rapper can get 100 Brixtape downloads in a New York minute, literally! That type of independent music hustle is currently unmatched. Whether he is exposing his divorce, charming the pants off a lady, dealing coke at age 14 to pay for an abortion or describing his battered mother, you feel every raw detail of the music. Other artists always say they’re “grindin” but in comparison to Brix have faced slight struggles prior to triumph. Brix dominates in the studio just as he has in life. “People see how I work, but in my opinion I could work harder. I believe it takes a beyond human effort to achieve what I’m setting out for,” said Brix.

With diamond teeth and a boss belly that will make your girlfriend blush, Brix the 757 party host and GranCru Music MC described his creative process. “It is very tedious and varies. Lyrics that tell direct stories from my life seem to come easiest. I’ve written songs in an hour, but then there are songs that have taken me weeks. I try to be crafty, witty and original,” said Brix. The BrixTape and BrixTape 2 Writing My Wrongs did significant numbers online. His newfound musical passion shows true potential.

Well-known urban magazine and video vixens, such as, Kyra Chaos grace Brix’s videos. The thighs on the women in the new video “Juice” prove Brix has just that. Although Brix’s mother works in the music industry, it wasn’t until his final semester of college that he jumped on the music scene. Brix said, “I was exposed to working behind the scenes in the music industry at a young age. But back then I had no thoughts or desires to pursue music as a career, so I took that inside plug for granted.” Brix’s shocking change of heart now shuts down college campuses with mainstream artist such as Miguel. Not to mention DC’s club Love and an unplugged concert put together by PR enthusiast Julia “JuJu” Jesse.

With continued success, Brix’s music tells the story of a kid from Brooklyn that grew up experiencing things that no kid should ever see. His music represents a person that beat the odds and made it out the hood. Brix did something with his life. He gives back to his old neighborhood and offers his story. “I talk to the kids on my block; I try to make them aware that the world has way more to offer than what they see in the hood. I encourage them to leave, because I think that’s what saved my life.”

Brix is as dedicated to his home as he is to his music. Through all obstacles, Brix’s greatest accomplishment his children, are what keep him motivated. These two little people are his biggest fans and keep their daddy inspired. With this type of ambition you might want to become one of the several thousand Twitter followers behind Brix. You are either going to respect his grind or get left behind.

Keep Up with Brix:

I was able to appreciate the sounds, the look and fashion.” His diverse appreciation for music and exclusive sneakers evolved into the passion that would fuel his success.

Jay Fresh Kicks’ fascination progressed into his first musical ventures as a DJ. “Meeting rappers in high school was the turning point for me,” said JFK. As a DJ, he always had all the latest instrumentals for him and his friends to rap over. Eventually, he discovered software that would enable him to create his own tracks. The start of JFK’s label HollaFame Music quickly initiated. “I fell in love with production, the whole process and never stopped,” he said. All the bright Madison Square Garden spotlights, #1 independent record request and an international platinum record placement seem to have little affect on his ego. There is a refreshingly humble aura about him. Although he has faced his share of the industries inconsistencies he continues to actively brand “#GoodVibes” throughout his journey.

At the age of 19, JFK turned down his acceptance to Full Sail University and left his hometown of Woodbridge, VA for Hollywood. “I had recently placed my first record on a project for an up and coming female rapper named Morgan Smith. She was signed to Interscope Records at the time and had a pretty big buzz around her,” said JFK. He produced a couple tracks on her project and developed a relationship with her management and the rapper who was writing her material. Fully utilizing this opportunity JFK eventually was brought to work under the same management team, Erving Wonder. Early in his career he obtained several influential placements, including, Yung Berg, Shawnna, Lil Fizz and Ray-J. Also, JFK created tracks on Eve’s self-titled UPN sitcom and composed the internationally acclaimed 2005 Project Runway finale track for Bravo TV.

This was only the beginning; in 2009 JFK signed a publishing deal with Universal Records that changed his life. Now having the backing of a major label, he was given the opportunity to fully focus on making music and developing his talent. In addition, becoming affiliated with the Universal brand further established his name. More industry doors began to open to him. “There is a lot more credibility in the world once you have the backing and co-sign of a major company” said JFK. He urges up and coming producers to “KNOW exactly what kinds of deals are out there, which ones suit you and are best for your personal situation…research the industry and how it works. There are always opportunities to consider and decisions to be made. Some are short term and some will affect you long term.” Furthermore, JFK does not wish to confine his name solely to the title of “producer,” since his artistic capabilities are immense. We have all heard the Jack of all trades is the master of none; however, JFK effortlessly executes numerous components of music composition.

The astounding beats created by JFK have been embraced by artist including Trey Songz, Avant, Lloyd, 50 Cent and Rick Ross. As he raps the lyrics, “I built a bridge from the Bridge (Woodbridge,VA) to my destiny” passion is undeniable. There is no formulated gimmick, JFK really lives and breathes music. Having produced limitless tracks he knows he can craft the record that will change his life at any moment. “I try to be as productive as I can and not waste time,” said JFK. The vibe around him is what stimulates his creative process. As he travels throughout the country his music is inspired by environments of all sorts. His studio sessions usually include visual stimulants, such as, light projectors, fog machines and candles. With no particular preference JFK said, “I can create on a plane, a beach, in bed, in a studio or wherever I can use my laptop and headphones.” The hunger to write that faultless song, arrange that amazing beat or produce the phenomenal track is never ending.

Ask JFK his greatest accomplishment and he’ll say “staying alive.” The Universal Music super producer’s optimism increases his entrepreneurial productivity, as the CEO of HollaFame Music, a self-proclaimed “lifestyle specialist” and an evolving artist. With notable album features and an inked publishing deal the modest JFK continuously aspires for progression, radio singles and a Grammy. He is a man of few words yet his music speaks volumes. Jay Fresh Kicks radiates positivity, while his blended music and fashion maintain an international presence. It is obvious to anyone who watches him work; his talent is as rare as the kicks on his feet.

Keep up with JFK:
