v1 A massive crowd flooded Benjamin Franklin Parkway; all of Philadelphia was downtown. The Roots and Marlon Wayans hosted the family-friendly, all-star Independence Day line-up. Jennifer Hudson and her infamous voice made it impossible for even Mayor Michael Nutter to stay in his seat.

Philadelphia native’s DJ Jazzy Jeff and Jill Scott turned-up for their hometown while VH1 broadcasted. Host Wayans’ comical rap battle against Black Thought made everyone grateful he never pursued a rap career. Hip-Hop queen Nicki Minaj saved the stage with a  20 minute set including, new single “Pills N Potions”. The curvaceous emcee gave life ascending over her male rap colleagues.

British sensation Ed Sheeran rocked-out closing The Philly 4th of July Jam.  Sheeran’s “Sing” was a crowd favorite and his album recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Mind-blowing colors soon illuminated the sky; no Philly 4th of July Jam would be complete without fantastic fireworks.

I saw those fireworks on TV. Virginia never has anything like this going on the 4th. We need to do better.

Wow! I was in the crowd on the free side. The screens were pretty cool but it must have been nice to be directly in front of the stage. I may have to purchase next year. Great website. You looked good on TV.

Does Nicki’s body really look that crazy in person? You looked close on Instagram.
